Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What is Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)?

The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (RN OSCE) is a test that examines internationally qualifiedregistered nurses who want to practice as registered nurses in Australia. The purpose of the examination is for applicants to demonstrate their knowledge, abilities, and judgment in a context as similar as feasible to the clinical experiences they would encounter as Australian nurses.

The RN OSCE test consist of ten clinical scenarios designed to examine individuals in accordance with the NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice. In Australia, the RN OSCE is the entry-level practise level for RNs.

  • How much is the fee for OSCE?

OSCE costs $4,000 AUD. It will be utilized by AHPRA in the operation and maintenance of OSCE.

  • Is the fee for OSCE refundable?

Regardless of the cause, the OSCE cost is non-refundable, but you may reschedule your exam with IQNM (international qualified nurses and midwives) exam committee.

It is required that you need to contact exam committee IQNMexams@ahpra.gov.au  or on 1300 419 495 a minimum of 72hrs (3 full business days) prior to your allocated exam date and time.

  • Can the exam be only taken in Australia?

In November 20, 2023, AHPR revealed plans to expand assessment capabilities for overseas trained nurses and midwives by establishing a new center in Melbourne. This center aims to expedite the assessment of clinical skills, reducing wait times for these professionals seeking to practice in Australia. Previously, individuals with relevant but not equivalent qualifications had to travel to South Australia for assessments. The introduction of a second assessment site is expected to fortify Australia's healthcare workforce, especially following a substantial increase in internationally qualified nurses and midwives registered to work in the country last year. The anticipated start for this initiative is the quarter of 2024.

  • What do I do if I’m not in Australia?

If you live outside of Australia, you must come to Australia to take the OSCE examination. Furthermore, the candidate is responsible for booking his or her own travel arrangement, including accommodation.

  • How long is the OSCE?

The exam will last roughly 3.5 hours. It might be the morning or the afternoon.

There are ten individual stations will be allocated to each candidate. The time frame for each station is 10 minutes:

Two (2) minutes-Reading time outside of the exam room

Eight (8) minutes-Performance time inside of the room

  • When will I get my results?

As soon as possible (often within 6 weeks) after the exam date, candidates will get an email containing their exam results. If you have successfully completed OSCE, you will be able to apply for registration and the instructions for doing so will be available in your IQNM dashboard.

  • Can I retake the exam if I fail?

After receiving their OSCE results, unsuccessful candidates can apply to repeat the exam. Before moving on to the next step of the OSCE, they need to make sure the next OSCE fee has been paid in full using the IQNM dashboard. As soon as the IQNM exam staff is informed of the payment, they will send an email with a booking selection form that will include the next available exam date.

  • What is the next step after I pass my OSCE?

Candidates who pass the OSCE will be asked to submit an application to AHPRA for NMBA registration. Once the results are made public, the candidate's dashboard will be updated with the procedure's following steps.

  • Where can I get more information about the OSCE?

NOTC will provide you with the information and materials you need to become proficient and competent for your OSCE examination. External OSCE preparation programmes are not endorsed by the NMBA or AHPRA.

Jordana and Vicky who are very kind, helpful, supportive and stand right behind the students to help them to move forward and reach their goals and their destination, just as parents would do! These experiences are truly irreplaceable and I would not trade them for anything.

S. Thapa, Nepal

I was looking for online prep for OSCE. When I realised that NOTC was delivering OSCE face-to-face in Manila, I grabbed the opportunity. I wasn't sure if there were any similar offers. With the intensive training, they were able to cover all the stations that if I prepared by myself, I would've never been able to accomplish it.The online LMS really requires you to participate so you can develop the skills that you need. One of my best experience is the personalised feedback and tips. The educators are friendly and approachable.

J. David, Philippines

Jordana is a one-of-a-kind-teacher who puts in the extra effort to build content for students who will understand and are able to enjoy learning. This approach boosts student confidence in a dedicated and professional manner.
